Window Tinting

Tinting refers to the process of tinting a vehicle’s windows by the application of high-quality, specialist films to the window surfaces.

Over and above the undoubted aesthetic benefits, window tinting can also block 90% or more of harmful UV rays whilst also massively reducing heat.

It also has the added benefit of protecting the vehicle’s interior from sun damage, and increasing privacy within the car.

Can I tint my front windows?

We personally will not tint front windows. DVSA state that on front windows at least 70% VLT (visible light transmission) is the legal requirement on front windows. All car glass - even when untinted is slightly coloured. To fully comply with the law we would have to fit 15% tint to stay within the 70% which means it is hardly noticeable. Also as a business if we were to fit an illegal tint and there was to be an accident then we as a business would be liable.

What does UV film do?

All glass regardless of being tinted or not blocks UVB - this is what gives you a sun tan. However all glass lets UVA in. UVA is what can potentially be harmful and contribute to skin cancers. As Llumar approved installers we are able to fit their UVA blocking film. This film is transparent and blocks UVA. With the film being transparent it can be fitted on all windows including front windows and will protect people in the vehicle from UVA exposure. Llumar UV film is approved by the British Skin Foundation and blocks 99.9% of harmful UVA.

Does the tint go on the inside or outside of the vehicles windows?

The vehicle window tint is always installed on the inside of the windows.

Does it matter how dark the vehicle window tint is?

Yes it does. There are laws here in the UK that state that the front windscreen must let in at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let in at least 70% of light through. There are no rules when it comes to the rear window or any rear side windows. In fact a very popular choice is 90% on the rear window and side windows only. The reason this type of tint is so popular is because it offers a high level of privacy plus it helps to keep your vehicle cool in hot weather.

Is window tinting expensive?

Not at all. But there is a certain amount of skill required to do it professionally, and that is where we come in.

Do I have to wait before I can use my windows after tinting?

It is standard procedure to leave your windows up for 3 to 5 days after they have been tinted. This allows the film to cure and adhere properly.

How long will my vehicle window tint last?

The majority of window tint is guaranteed for 10 years and some tints come with a lifetime guarantee.

Will the tinting film affect my rear window defroster?

No. The rear window defroster will not be affected at all by your window tint.

How long does it take to tint my vehicles windows?

We normally ask to have your vehicle for 3 to 4 hours to complete your window tinting. Whilst we do have a seating area and refreshments available most people have someone follow you to our unit and take you home, or grab a coffee whilst your car is being transformed. We will of course keep you informed and give you a time when the vehicle will be ready to collect

Will you have to remove parts of my vehicle to do the tint?

No. In almost 100% of cases we do not need to remove anything at all from your vehicle.
